The most awaited 54th Filmfare awards 2009 funtion was held on feb 28th at Yashraj Studios in suburban Mumbai. The hot and glamorous event was hosted by the new comers Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan. Hrithik Roshan(for Jodha Akbar) and Priyanka chopra(For Fashion) won the best actor and actress awards respectively. A small film like Mumbai Meri Jaan is judged the Best Film of the year 2008. Jodha Akbar won the five awards in various categories including Ashutosh Gowarikar who won the best Director award.

The south india flick Asin Thottumkal received an enchanting response by the award Best Sensational Debut (Female) for Ghajini. And the oscar winner AR Rahman received the Music Director award for Jaane Tu and Best Background score for Jodha Akbar. Peter Hein of tamil film industry got the Best Action award for Ghajini.


Aishwarya Rai who was busy shooting for director manirathnam's film at kolkata, went rushing to the awards function to see her husband's performance and also her father in law receiving the Life time Acheiver award. Everyone's eyes were over the glam dame Rekha, who is the everyoung actress of bollywood. At a later point of time the hosting was done by Karan Johar, Deepika padukone and Konkana Sen sharma.
